Lot 73 1835 N-19 R5 Head of 1836 EF45+

1835 N-19 R5 Head of 1836 EF45+Frosty light olive and steel brown. Flowline luster shows in the fields and protected areas on the obverse and the eye appeal of this cent is quite nice. Just light friction on the devices and a few contact marks. The notable marks are a light scratch left of star 11, a very tiny rim bruise at star 12, and a light diagonal nick under the right side of star 3. Very early die state with hard, reflective fields on the reverse. The obverse die is well worn from use in the earlier N-7 marriage while the reverse die is new and very sharp. This was the second example discovered of the variety, and the story of the discovery is explained on page 259 in John Wright's The Cent Book 1816-1839. Several dozen addition examples have been found over the succeeding decades, but only a few of those are in high grade. Graded AU55 net EF45 and CC#2 in the Noyes census, his photo #25746.Certificate Number: Pedigree: Ex J. R. "Bob" Grellman, Jr. 6/15/1982-Richard V. Punchard 6/15/1989-Wesley A.
