Lot 55 1835 N-4 R4+ Head of 1834, Small 8 & Stars, PCGS graded AU58, CAC Approved

1835 N-4 R4+ Head of 1834, Small 8 & Stars, PCGS graded AU58, CAC ApprovedChoice glossy medium brown and light chocolate with mint frost in the protected areas on both sides. Very tiny specks of darker olive brown toning are scattered over the obverse, none visible without the aid of a glass. Lightly worn on the devices and nearly flawless. Some tiny ticks in the field off the end of the nose are the only notable contact marks, and you need a glass to see them. Rare LDS, die state e, with a fully raised cud break at NITED (a single low grade example of a later die state has a slightly raised retained cud over D-STA). This is the finest known example of the variety and of this impressive die state. Graded AU55 net EF45 and CC#1 in the Noyes census, his photo #29374. Our grade is EF45+, close to AU50. An impressive cent: a wonderful combination of rarity, eye appeal, and die state.Certificate Number: 37081.58/30800033Pedigree: Ex Charles J.
