Lot 43 1834 N-2 R1 Small 8, Stars, Medium Letters, PCGS graded MS65 Brown, CAC Approved
1834 N-2 R1 Small 8, Stars, Medium Letters, PCGS graded MS65 Brown, CAC ApprovedChoice lustrous bluish steel brown. The surfaces are satiny and virtually flawless, and this cent has superior eye appeal. The portrait and wreath are sharply struck with full hair details over the brow. Essentially flawless; a small spot of lighter brown toning in the field off the chin and a tiny speck of fine carbon on the right top of the N in UNITED are the only notable marks. MDS, die state b late. The spikes up from the dentils under the date are weak but still visible and both dies are cracked (as usual). This is the Newcomb plate coin for the die variety (Plate VII, 1834 Obverse 2, Reverse B). Graded MS63 Choice and tied for CC#4 in the Noyes census, his photo #36413. Our grade is MS64. A superb cent that comes with a great provenance.Certificate Number: 37054.65/30999089Pedigree: Ex Howard R. Newcomb, J. C. Morgenthau & Co. 5/16/1945:649-Floyd T. Starr, Stack's 6/13/1984:281-R. E.
