Lot 22 1831 N-8 R3 Large Letters MS60+

1831 N-8 R3 Large Letters MS60+Lustrous light greenish olive brown and steel with traces of faded mint red in protected areas on both sides. Satiny mint frost covers the fields and protected areas, and this cent has very nice eye appeal. The only notable defects are three tiny specks of carbon: one on the bottom edge of the truncation above the 8, another on the upper left edge of the hair bun, and a third close under star 5. Otherwise this cent is choice. MDS, die state d, with a fine but clear die crack through the tops of TED-ST. Called MS60+ and tied for CC#2 in the Bland census. Noyes photo #36861. A very nice cent that comes with an equally impressive provenance.Certificate Number: Pedigree: Ex J. C. Morgenthau & Co. 12/1937:402-Judge Thomas L.
