^Lot 3 British Sappers & Miners Percussion Carbine with Bayonet

British Sappers & Miners Percussion Carbine with Bayonet, #11F19, approx. .69 cal., 26.75" round smooth bore barrel, browned finish with brass forend cap, rammer pipes, trigger guard, and buttplate. Hardwood stock with sling swivels. No sights. There is a bayonet mounting stud behind the muzzle and a Lovells catch bayonet release mounted to the end of the forend. Includes tulip head iron rammer and bayonet. Bayonet has a 3" socket, rounded shoulders, and a 17" triangular blade. There is a lug at the end of the socket to engage the Lovells catch on the forend. Blade is marked with inspection stamp "(Crown)/B16/EX" over "John Ro??/X/R.C". Condition is very good showing an old cleaning with areas of patina and the tip is bent to the left. It mounts and releases smoothly on the muzzle. Carbine lock plate is marked "(Crown)/VR/TOWER 1850/(Lock Viewers mark)". Left side barrel is stamped "(Broad Arrow)/TI" over a "(Crown)2" inspection stamp. Left side stock flat is stamped with sub-contractor "A.CARR" and "D.W.WITTON" stamped along the toe with "(Crown)2" and "(Crown)15" inspection stamps. There is a "(Broad Arrow)BO" Board of Ordnance stamp on the left side of the buttstock and a very faint rack number stamped into the buttplate tang. Condition overall is very good, barrel shows browning with brighter areas, and old pitting behind the hammer. Lockplate and hammer have areas of cleaned pitting that has now toned darker. Brass parts are mostly toned darker with scattered lighter areas. Stock is very good with an even dark red color, showing impressions and handling marks. Hammer pulls back smoothly and locks to the rear but will not release with the trigger. The tumbler has disengaged from the main spring and the lock must be removed from the stock to release the hammer and be re-installed. Smooth bore rates fair to good with old rust that may clean better. Est.: $800-$1,200. (Antique)
