Lot 1049 Spanish / CAI 1916 'Mauser' 7.62 NATO #20938
This is a Sporterized Spanish “La Guardia Civil” M1916 small ring Mauser bolt-action rifle, converted to 7.62 NATO upon importation by CAI (stamped behind muzzle). The original finish has been removed chemically, and what is left is smooth raw steel. The integrity of the raw steel is excellent, with only slight indentations around the rear sight base and buttplate, and light pitting of the floor plate and trigger guard, with no visible, active oxidation. The receiver features the insignia of La Guardia Civil. The bolt is raw and unfinished polished steel. There is some marring of the guard screw slots evident. The rear sight was a Lange Visier variant, however the slide plate has been removed and replaced with a Weaver sight base to mount a Japanese made Simmons model #22003 2x20 handgun scope, effectively creating a 7.62NATO scout style rifle. The receiver, barrel, bolt, trigger guard and floor plate also bear the matching serial number of Z1715 from its original Spanish manufacturer, placing original manufacture date between 1931-1932. The stock is a surplus stock cut back to 1.5” ahead of where the barrel band would have been, and the cleaning rod hold and the barrel band spring channel have both been filled and plugged, respectively. Overall the converted stock shows only light scratching and impressions. The bore is worn, but still serviceable. Original finish is no longer present, but the condition of the metal is fine. The stock is in very good condition.
