Lot 815a Spanish Colonial Lock, Plate & Key.
With small door opening and a key from treasure box, probably constructed of heavy wood that deteriorated. Circa 16-18th Century. (300-500 yrs. old approximately). Shows Moorish influence in front design. Key appears to be old and used with this lock but a bit later. Sprung door is genuine to this lock. Eight holes drilled to secure lock to box and mechanism operates but weakly. Approximately 9"x9". Great patina, good condition for its age. 2 old collection tags on back. Purchased at N.Y. City Auction a decade or more ago for $500 plus.
