Bolt-Action U.S. Infantry rifle used by British forces in WW1. Modified Mauser turn-bolt action. 26" barrel , with rear ladder aperture sight, front sight blade, both with sight protectors. Clip-fed 5 rd magazine. Thumb safety on right receiver. "Winchester Model of 1917" and serial number marked on the chamber. Barrel date11-17, with flaming bomb and "W". Bolt handle stamped "W" , "NS" and "202800" Eagle head cartouche behind the triggerguard is very feint. Cocking piece stamped "E N" (Eddystone Arsenal). Bore is very good/bright. Action is smooth/tight. The top of the wood is painted with a red stripe to warn British troops that it is chambered in the original caliber .30-06 and not .303, the stock has a British "Board Arrow" and unit or regimental cartouches on the right buttstock. Blued metal finish is about 60% with handling wear. Wood stock, and hand guards are good/sound with the usual dings, scratches.
