Lot 732 T. W. Cofer Percussion Shotgun 12 ga NVSN
Double bbl 12 ga percussion shotgun signed T. W. Cofer on both locks. Cofer worked on both locks. Cofer worked in Portsmouth and Richmond, Virginia and this can be considered a secondary confederate gun as all useable weapons were pressed into service. Confederate cavalry used shotguns very effectively as they were used to bird hunting from horseback. Cofer revolvers are the rarest and most sought after of confederate pistols. Nearly 48" overall with 31 1/2" bbls. Fair to good overall condition. Brown patina finish with minor pitting and erosion. Stocks worn smooth and checkering very light. Right lock works but left does not. Left nipple busted from heavy use. Provenance: Fred Slayton Collection 1990's, sold by Little John. Slayton collected arms from families in the south whose ancestors used the guns in civil war. His paper tag still in stock. A great name in confederate guns.
