Lot 462 Chilean M1895 Carbine 7x57mm SN: C9971

German contract Chilean military carbine manufactured by Loewe in Berlin Germany. chambered in the original 7x57mm caliber. Primarily designed for cavalry and artillery. There is no visible import mark. The top of the receiver is marked with the Chilean Crest. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number, two proofs, and “MAUSER CHILENO MODELO 1895 / MANUFACTURA LOEWE BERLIN”. Most of the metal parts are marked with or small Chilean proofs & stampings. The receiver, the bolt handle, the bottom metal are all marked with the serial number. The bolt assembly and the floor plate are each marked with the last 2 digits of the serial number. The left side of the stock is marked with a faded Chilean crest. 18.3" barrel with military sights graduated to 1400 meters, Mauser style action with flag safety, hinged floor plate, left side mounted sling swivels, wood stock & hand guard with smooth steel buttplate. 37 1/2" overall. Bore is very good/bright, strong rifling, action is strong, finish is in the white and the wood is overall very good/sound with minor dings/dents. "C" serial number prefix with turned down bolt handles, indicates it was part of a batch of rifles originally ordered by the Boer forces but was intercepted by the British blockade and then sold to Chile by Germany. Manufactured circa 1896.
