Lot 228 Springfield Armory M1 Garand .30-06 #7215

"Gas Trap" US military semi-automatic rifle, manufactured circa 1938, restored to the original very early pre-war configuration with recently made replica gas trap parts. The workhorse rifle of the US military in WWII and beyond. Features parkerized finish, walnut stock & hand guards, 24" barrel, adjustable sights with protected front blade & protected rear peep, fixed magazine for en-bloc clip, manual safety. Early style milled trigger guard. Barrel marked "SA D6535448 8 53 MD35" with crossed cannon stamp. Bolt marked "6528287-SA J-1-A". "SA" observed on hammer, trigger housing. Bore shows some light frosting throughout, sharp rifling. Various metal parts show different shades of dark gray parkerized finish, 95% coverage of arsenal refinish. The gas trap parts look like new. The wood is very good with typical handling marks, scratches and gouges, "P" in circle on bottom of wrist, "SA" in box over "F" on left just behind wrist. Painted rack number "86" behind receiver. Includes proper type green cotton web sling.
