Julien's Auction held a major auction titled "PROPERTY FROM THE LIFE AND CAREER OF DON MCLEAN" in November 2022 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of "American Pie". The auction, which took place at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City, featured over 300 items from McLean's personal collection, including this rifle. Professionally restored Winchester model 1886 lever-action rifle chambered in .38-56 W.C.F. Manufactured 1887, second year of production, 26" round heavy barrel, dovetailed blade/bead front, adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sights, high-polish blued finish, lever safety, straight wrist, smooth walnut shoulder stock & forearm with metal fore cap, crescent steel buttplate. The bore is rifling is present, somewhat worn with full coverage light pitting, lever action is smooth, the re-blued finish is about 94% with some minor rubs and some scattered light pitting showing under the blue on the receiver and the wood is overall good/sound with some minor scratches/dings. All Winchester markings are clear. Comes with paperwork from the auction & original auction tag. Note: there is a Winchester model 1892 from the same collection up for bid in this auction.
