Lot 74 Colt 1851 Navy 'Cased & Engraved' .36 Cal

#27022. This is a cased 2nd generation Colt re-issue model 1851 Navy revolver that has been customized to commemorate the battle of Picacho Peak , Arizona on April 15th, 1862. It was the westernmost battle of the Civil War resulting in a Confederate victory over Union cavalry. The work was commissioned by Dennis Rothbard, president of Filmmaker's Armory, Tempe, AZ. Manufactured 1978, 7 1/2" barrel. Engraved by Conrad S. Anderson of Gilbert, AZ in 1988. All inlay and overlay is in 24 kt. gold and done by Mr. Anderson. The ivory grips and scrimshaw is by Art Jewel Enterprises, Ltd. Addison, Illinois. High polish blued finish, standard colt markings including the naval battle scene on cylinder, all matching serial numbers. Panel with floral/scroll engraving with gold border's on frame, barrel and lever, muzzle has a gold border with gold scroll accents, left side of barrel has gold inlay "Arizona" and the right has "Picacho Peak", the nipples are gold and the rear left of the barrel has a gold inlay in the shape of Arizona and the right has crossed cavalry sabers. The left rear of the frame has a gold inlay saguaro cactus. The bottom of the frame is stamped "C.S.A.". The left panel of the ivory grip has the scrimshaw etching of the Seal oft he Territory of Arizona dated 1863 and the right has the image of Picacho Peak. Comes in a red felt lined form fitted oak case with military motifs powder flask, bullet mold, tin of Eley percussion caps and key. Also comes with a letter from Filmmaker's armory confirming the above information, a history of the battle and a appraisal from Legendary Guns, Phoenix, AZ dated 6-5-12 valuing this revolver at $3500.00. The revolver is in like new condition. The hammer does not stay cocked which points to the mainspring. (Easy fix). The case and accessory's are excellent. A beautiful 2nd Generation one of a kind Colt.
