Lot 678 Panoramic Photo Of Clifton, Arizona 1890-1900s
Featured in this lot is this original, panoramic photo of Clifton, Arizona in its early stages in the late 1890s to early 1900s. The town of Clifton, Arizona was founded in 1873 by miners settling along the San Francisco River and Chase Creek after the area was first known as Goulding's Camp. It was officially incorporated as a city in 1909, the same year that Greenlee County, for which it became the seat, was established. This photo was taken from the bank of the river and is shooting up the small hill into the town. Various buildings can be seen such as one marked "Plumbing" and one marked "Merchandise". Various houses can be seen scattered throughout the hill side. No makers mark or photographer mark is present on the photo. It is marked on the back reading, "Clifton, Arizona". It shows good condition overall with some wear present from its age and use over the years, but no signs of major damage is noted. It measures 5 1/2" L x 15 7/8" W and weighs under 6 ounces.
