Lot 567 Qing Dynasty Rose Quartz Bixi Sculpture

Featured in this lot is this Rose Quartz sculpture of the legendary Bixi circa Qing Dynasty. The sculpture features a wonderfully and professionally crafted rose quartz and wooden base construction that shows the son of the Dragon king with his shell and a furry tail and the head of a dragon. The sculpture is carved from rose quartz and appears to be circa the Quing Dynasty (1644-1912). Bixi is a legendary creature from Chinese mythology, one of the nine sons of the Dragon King, depicted as a dragon with a turtle's shell. Known for its immense strength, Bixi loves to carry heavy objects and is often shown supporting large stone steles or tablets, symbolizing endurance and stability. The tradition of Bixi-shaped bases for steles originated in the Han Dynasty, evolving from real aquatic turtles to the dragon-headed, turtle-bodied form seen in later dynasties. The condition of this Bixi sculpture is well preserved with some natural hairline fissures with NO breaks and shows a well preserved overall condition. The measurements of this Bixi sculpture 7 1/4" x 10 7/8" x 5 1/8". The collective weight of this sculpture is 9lb 4oz.
