Lot 1089a Full Tang Katana
Appears to be a old copy of a Japanese Full tang Katana Sword, possibly Chinese. Shows age and wear. 28" 'Damascus' Steel blade, the brass blade collar (Habaki) is stamped "77734" , the tang has a 4 Mei signature. The ray skin grip is wrapped in black cloth with Menuki. The pommel and scabbards fittings have small bird motifs, the wood scabbard is wrapped in sanded ray skin, the Fuchi and Tsuba have floral motifs and the scabbard contains a set of a kogai (hairpin/ear scoop) and a kogatana. (small utility knife). Both were carried in the scabbard. Together, such a matched pair is called Futakoromono. The scabbard is missing the ring, and the bamboo grip pin is missing, the left side of the blade has a small patch of pitting. An interesting sword. Worthy of further research.
