Lot 388 Bozo or Bamana Tribe "Marionette" Statue, Mali
West Africa, Mali, Bozo or Bamana peoples. Marionette Merekun wood statue on custom stand. Heart shaped head with an indent stylisticly carved into the figures head. Remnants of dark red pigment and black highlights. Heavy white cotton sweater with black horizontal stripes and buttons. Each arm carved in two flat sections with hinge to the elbow. Wood carved lower body in two flat panels covered in light orange and yellow textiles with a black skirt. Size 32" H x 11" W x 2" L. For a similar example see the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Accession Number 1979.206.52). Condition: Loss and wear overall commensurate with age and use.
