Lot 1106 Original Plate Engraving on Paper

of Lord Horatio Nelson, who is generally regarded as the greatest officer in the history of the Royal Navy. His reputation is based on a series of remarkable victories, culminating in the Battle of Trafalgar where he was killed in his moment of triumph. The poet Byron referred to him as 'Britannia's God of War'. The image measures approx 9 1/2" x 11 1/2". Under the image on the left side, states, "Painted by L. F. Abbott" and under the image on the right side has, "Engraved by Robt Graves A.R.A.". Approx 1" below the image and centered says "LORD NELSON" and 1" below that says, "From the original picture in the pofsession of Huson Morris, Esq" and about 1" underneath that sentence says " London Published Nov 6th 1847 by Henry Graves & Comp Publishers to the Queen 6.Pall Mall". Overall measurement is 20"x22". Very good condition. A rare find. From the Estate of Joseph Musso.
