SERIAL NUMBER 87018 BARREL 27" CALIBER .44 RIM FIRE MANUFACTURED 1871. Developed by Winchester in attempts to get Military contracts both domestically and abroad. A number of small police contracts in LA, Wash, D.C. and several other states. Several large military contracts were filled in south America as well as Europe. Full length round barrel with stud front sight also working as a bayonet stud. Full length tube magazine with 2 piece oil finished American Walnut stocks with forearm retained by 2 bands. Butt stock has brass butt plate with trap for cleaning rods and sling swivels. Gun metal brass receiver with serial number on lower tang. Barrel has traditional Winchester 2 line address on top and folding staff rear sight graduated to 900 yards. CONDITION, Good as found with fine sharp bore. Wood stocks are full sized with period of use bruises and impressions. Barrel and magazine have both toned to a plum patina. Action needs attention as rimfire firing pin ring is missing allowing hammer to follow the bolt forward. Believed to be a simple repair. ANTIQUE
