Lot 2260 WWI GERMAN ERSATZ "SAWBACK" BAYONET.
During WWI, Germany was in demand for bayonets of the standard 1898/05 specifications. Local workshops were tasked w/ filling demand. The "Sawback" bayonet were issued to machine gun & pioneer troopers to clear obstructions. Overall: 19". The 14 1/4" fullered blade has a 10" section of "sawback" spine along w/ crown D proof. Crossguard has "C" shaped muzzle clasp & slight curve. Metal grip w/ grooves & green paint. Metal scabbard w/ black paint. CONDITION: Good overall w/ black & dark brown patina, flaking finish, & marks. (02-16387-1/MD). $300-500.
