Rifle. Bolt-Action. Side-mounted, hinged, 5-rd magazine. U.S. Military issued rifle. Spanish-American War era. This rifle has been sporterized. Barrel cut to 25", original front sight moved back. Adjustable leaf marked " D.W. King Jr., Pat. Mar 5, 07" added. Left receiver stamped U.S. Model 1898 Springfield Armory" followed by serial number. Original barrel band, and buttplate. Original stock has been shortened, with wood extension added to make full checkered pistol grip. Checkered forearm. Stock has been heavily varnished. Blued barrel. receiver, bolt, and triggerguard are in the white, with traces of blue remaining. Action is crisp/tight. With some TLC, would make a nice deer rifle. NRA Condition-Good as sporterized. C&R firearm.
