CIRCA 1820. Fine stirrup hilt cavalry saber made by Nathan Starr, Middletown, Connecticut. 33.75” curved flat blade marked: "P/ HHP/ N. STARR" on ricasso & “S. CAROLINA” stamped horizontally on opposite side. Southern states marked antebellum arms are all very scarce this is an excellent example of a rarely seen sword in beautiful condition. CONDITION: very good overall, blade is gray overall w/ areas of luster, light staining & pitting, crisp inspector & “S. CAROLINA” markings. Scabbard & hilt have iron patina & scabbard retains much of its japanned finish. Grip retains most of its leather. (02-14522/JS). $5,000-7,000.
