A classic Civil War period Union bummers cap of blue wool w/ a 4 1/2” rise in the front & a 7” rise in the rear. Leather chinstrap w/ dual slides & brass enlisted buttons securing the ends. Heavy leather visor w/ tarred finish. Leather sweatband. Dark polished cotton liner. Dark red crown w/ a white “19”. This example appears to be a private purchase cap. All indications are this is a period bummers cap however it does not confirm to federal contracts. We do not guarantee the age of this item & recommend close inspection prior to bidding. CONDITION: cap shows light wear overall w/ a few moth tracks in the wool body. Chinstrap has flaking & loss of finish. Visor has some minor heat damage.
