Colt Factory Conversion of the Percussion Model 1861 Navy to a Metallic Revolver, #4472, .38 CF cal., 7.5'' round ''streamlined'' barrel with ejector rod on right side marked on top ''Address Col. Saml Colt New-York U.S. America'' in one line, 6-shot plain round cylinder, left side of frame with two-line 1871-72 patent dates, brass gripstraps with ''38 Cal'' stamped on left triggerguard bolster, with varnished one-piece walnut grips. Loading gate correctly batch marked ''472''. Originally with full nickel-plated finish. Mfg'd mid-1870s in a quantity of approx. 2,200 revolvers. Condition is about good showing approx. 60% renickeled finish (difficult to discern as colors match closely) over occasional pitting especially on left side of barrel; no cylinder engraving remains and barrel address is soft, but other markings are sharp; age patina to brass. Grips are solid showing use marks and chips out at both toes and fit well. Action is smooth and positive; bore appears clean with shallow rifling. Est.: $600-$800. (Antique)
