Civil War National Arms Co. No. 1 Single Shot Spurtrigger Cartridge Derringer, #5557, .41 RF cal., 2.5'' steel barrel marked ''National Arms Co. Brooklyn, N.Y.'' on top and ''Pat. Feb. 24 1863'' underneath, twists to left to load/eject cartridge; brass frame; two-piece checkered walnut ''bird's head'' grips. Floral hand engraving appears on both sides and top of frame, backstrap and barrel at breech; a fletched arrow is engraved along both barrel sides. Condition is good+ retaining no original metal finish but with clear engraving and markings. Grips show wear to checkering and a large chip out of right panel. Action functions; barrel hinge is solid; bore is rusty. A presumed collection inventory number, ''L.110-108'' is painted on undersides of frame and barrel. Est.: $400-$600. (Antique)
