Antique Winchester Model 1895 Lever Action Rifle, #5724, .30 U.S. (.30-40 Krag) cal., 28'' round barrel, originally with blue finish, straight grip walnut stock and forend; Schnabel forend with ebony insert. Also features a crescent steel buttplate, pinned nickel silver front sight, and semi-buckhorn rear sight that is missing the elevator. Barrel is marked only ''30 U.S.''; upper tang ''WINCHESTER / MODEL 1895.'' Left side of receiver is marked in two-lines and has ''Nov. 5, 95; Nov. 12, 95; and Aug. 17, 97'' patent dates. Condition overall is good. Barrel, receiver, etc. is mostly silvery gray with some cloudy and spotted darkening to the metal; lever and magazine with a more uniform patina; factory lettering, etc. is clear. Wood appears unsanded with a good fit at the surrounding metal surfaces, showing age and wear consistent with the rest of the rifle, including general moderate impressions and surface scratches. Action is crisp with a smooth hammer and trigger. Bore is dark and lightly frosted in the grooves; very good well-defined rifling. Overall a good honest looking old rifle. Est.: $800-$1,200. (Antique)
