Elaborate plains rifle signed C.F. Matthews, Petersburg III with direct provenance to Buffalo Bill Cody originally and sold by family member Julia Cody Goodman at Butterfields Auction Co., March 18, 1988. Approximately .36 caliber percussion with a 33 ½” medium weight barrel and 48” overall. Fine engraved silver inlays and plaque with eagle and shield along with abalone shell and fancy eagle on the trigger guard. The rifle is in very good condition with minor loss of inlays. Cody was pictured holding this rifle but unable to locate at time of cataloging. (Antique) Est.: $15,000-$30,000
