Lot 1013 Unmkd. American Underhammer Perc. Bootleg Pistol
Unmarked American Underhammer Single Shot Percussion ''Bootleg'' Pistol, appears to be #477, .36 cal., 6'' octagon-to-round barrel with dovetailed German silver blade front sight, buckhorn type rear sight mounted at extreme top of saw-handle grip tang. Single ''star'' hand-cut on triggerguard loop. Hardwood two-piece grips. Condition is fair, showing an overall deep brown patina and scattered light erosion. Grips are good retaining most of their apparently original varnish. Action appears to work; bore is dark but shows rifling at muzzle. A distinctive style of concealable weapon circa the 1830s-1850s, popular primarily in New England. This one, though somewhat crude, is notable for its revolver-type triggerguard, and reverse barrel configuration (octagonal-to-round, from muzzle to breech). Est.: $200-$400. (Antique)(Joe Poyer collection)
