Lot 224 French M.1874 Chamelot Delvigne Officer's Revolver

French Modele 1874 Chamelot Delvigne Officer's Double Action Cartridge Revolver, NVSN, 11mm CF cal., 4-3/8'' round-to-octagonal barrel marked ''S Faur‚ LePage a Paris'' on top flat, and ''Chamelot / & / Delvigne'' on right flat; 6-shot fluted cylinder, checkered thumb pieces on hammer and rear-swiveling loading gate. Originally blued and case hardened finish; checkered ebonized hardwood grips. The Modele 1874 Revolver d'Officier, with blued finish and a fluted cylinder, differed from the Modele 1873, which was finished in the white. This example is a commercial version of the Modele 1874, retailed by the famous Parisian gunmaker LePage. Condition is very good, retaining approx. 40% original blue especially in protected areas; case hardening has mostly silvered out. Grips are very good with one compression mark on right side below screw escutcheon; lanyard ring missing from butt. Action is crisp and smooth but cylinder does not lock up tightly; there is a chip missing from the barrel at its juncture with frame; bore is very good with sharp 4-groove rifling. Est.: $650-$950. (Antique)
