U.S. Springfield Model 1888 Trapdoor Single Shot Cartridge Infantry Rifle, #555621, .45-70 CF cal., 32-5/8'' two-band round barrel, sliding integral ramrod-bayonet, ''US/Model/1884'' on trapdoor below hinge, spread-eagle and ''U.S./Springfield'' stamped on lockplate, ''US'' on buttplate tang. Metal originally finished bright, oil finished one-piece walnut stock. Condition is very good+ with smooth patinated metal and excellent markings. Stock with large 1892-dated ''SWP'' inspector's cartouche opposite lockplate, smooth and solid with minor marks and dings. Action is tight and crisp, bore is mostly bright. Est.: $850-$1,250.
