Lot 784 Cree Knife & Beaded Sheath
Wood handled knife marked "Russel Green River Works" on 7 1/2" blade, 12 1/8" overall. Shows age and use. Geometric beaded sheath on leather in blue, green yellow, gold and white. A favorite among the Mountain Men, Green River knives were made in Greenfield, Massachusetts by J. Russell. The factory was started in 1832-34 to make butcher and kitchen knives. Close to 60,000 Russell Green River knives per year were shipped to the West for several years.
