U.S. Model 1840 Cavalry Saber, marked ''S&K'' (Schnitzler & Kirschbaum), 32'' blade, 38'' overall, with width of blade at guard 1.25''. Condition is very good. Wire wrap over leather grip is present and relatively tight. Blade shows light carbon spotting. Handguard and pommel with moderate patination and being somewhat loose. Iron scabbard shows moderate general toning and patination, much of which should clean. The type used by both sides during the Civil War. Est.: $300-$500.
