English Flintlock Trap Gun, ca. 1780-1820, 10'' barrel with 1-1/8'' bore, lock marked ''G. Jones/Birm'm'', with thumb-screw placement stack for elevation adjustment, and enclosed within a wooden framework, fitted with a trip bar for trigger. (See ''Firearms Curiousa'', by Winant, pages 109-110 & 113, where this exact type trap gun is discussed for use against poachers and supposedly grave robbers. They were outlawed in 1827.) Condition is fine to near excellent for its age with only minor paint loss to dark green finish. Lockwork may need minor adjustment or cleaning. Est.: $800-$1,200. (Antique)
