Wood and glass display case with ribbons & medals of Thomas Ward who served in WW I and WW II; with photo copy of his history and picture. In summary, Ward was born in 1899 and died in 1988. In 1916, when only 16 years old, he joined the Canadian Army resulting in his involvement in front line battlefield service in France for more than 2 years. Less than a week prior to Armistice Day in 1918, Tom received a severe shrapnel wound in hisleft leg. He returned home at the end of 1919 after lengthy hospitalization. He resumed his civilian life until the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Although disabled, he was able to talk his way into a clerical position in the United States with the U.S.M.C. in the Southwest Pacific Theater of War and remained in the assignment until the Japanese surrender. Weatherby Mk.V bolt action rifle, .300 Weatherby Magnum caliber, serial #15335. The rifle is in very good overall condition with a 25” barrel. The barrel and receiver retain nearly all of their original highpolish blued finish with only minor handling marks. The receiver is marked South Gate, Calif. and shows only high point edge wear. The magazine base has a gold elephant head inlay while the stock features Rosewood atthe fore end and on the pistol grip. The finely checkered wood stock is in very good condition with high grade Walnut showing nice figure and superior checkering and gold inlay under the fore end. The butt stockends with a Weatherby marked ventilated rubber recoil pad. The rifle is topped with Buehler two-piece bases and rings with a Weatherby Variable 2 ½ x 10 rifle scope. Weatherby Mk.V bolt action rifle, .270 Weatherby Magnum caliber, serial #P58136. The rifle is in excellent overall condition with a 26” barrel. The barrel and receiver retain nearly all of their original highpolish blued finish with only storage wear noted. The receiver and barrel are beautifully engraved with the action marked South Gate and the barrel indicating made in West Germany. The magazine base has a goldram’s head inlay while the stock features Rosewood at the fore end and on the pistol grip. The finely checkered wood stock is in excellent condition, constructed of extra fancy maple with tremendous inlays and topquality checkering. The butt stock ends with a Weatherby marked ventilated rubber recoil pad. The rifle is topped with engraved Redfield two-piece bases and rings with a Weatherby Premium 3 x 9 variable power scope. Japanese Matchlock rifle, approximately .45 caliber. The rifle is in good overall condition with a 29 ½” octagon barrel and an overall length of 41”. The barrel has taken on a dark patina while the action is brasswith a side plate running the length of the butt stock. The barrel features beautiful silver inlay the full length. The smooth wood stock shows wear with small compressions, dents and worm holes. The Colt remains in fine to excellent original condition showing 96-98% bright original blue, some very slight losses on the high points and edges, minor evidence of operation and slight use. The action is crisp, the bore excellent, the markings sharp; the ivory grips fit well and show age. Full mounted Koto period katana (Long sword) in Mino school style and circa 1450-1500s with a 26 ½” blade. In near fine condition showing an old polish with just minor openings to the lamination and minorimperfections. Full temper visible around the tip and at least very good plus for its great age. Fine quality mountings with fancy decorated raised lacquer work scabbard ornate silver and soft metal mountings with fancydecorated tsuba. The mountings are for a samurai of rank and date 18th-19th century. The mountings are very good plus to almost fine. French late 18th century double flintlock shotgun signed “Simon A’ Paris” who held an appointment as maker to Royalty in the pre-revolutionary era. The gun shows fancy hallmarked silver mountings and the stock isfinely and ornately raised carved in floral motifs at the tang, cheek piece, fore end and surrounding the mountings. The barrel shows gold gilt on blue of which 80%-90% finish and gold gilt remains just toning naturally. The locks are original flint and show most gold lining in pans. Signed in script on both locks in fancy script. The stock is very good plus and has been expertly repaired at the wrist by master craftsman and we would nothave detected it but informed by our consignor of this $3,000 museum quality restoration. The tang shows an engraved portrait with in a sunburst which may indicate a descendent from the sun king or arelationship. Measures 46” overall with 30 ¾” barrels of 20GA smoothbore. Pair of cased flintlock dueling pistols signed “Grierson” maker to his majesty circa about 1800. The pair measures 15” overall with a 9” octagon barrels of .69 smoothbore with full stocks. Spurs on guards withcheckered grips showing fine quality. Both pistols are near fine with considerable original brown and case colors remaining, estimated at 50%-75% crisp and sharp overall with very good plus stocks. Originalflintlock parts and original ramrods with worms attached to remove balls. The pair are English partition style cased with green felt or baize interior. The case shows an extra compartment for another pistol (about 10 ½”overall) and an “L” shape compartment for a shoulder stock also missing. A mold and 2 rod handles along with 2 original compartment covers included. The interior is fair to good with minor holes, aging tatters and etc. The box measures 21 ½” by 10” bottom only. The exterior shows a carry handle and engraved “B.W.A.” on the plaque. The exterior of case is good with normal aging and minor imperfections. This maker though not well

Historic and important Colt Model 1878 DA revolver, .45 caliber, 7.5” barrel, nickel finish, factory ivory grips, period inscribed on backstrap “W. T. Hartz/U.S.A”, S/N 4476; accompanied by a factory letter that confirms caliber, barrel length, finish, ivory grips with “Factory Inscribed/Not indicated”; shipped to W. T. Hartz, address “unavailable” on April 30, 1880, 1 gun in shipment. The gun is in overall very good un-cleaned condition displaying considerable original nickel on barrel and cylinder with scattered original nickel on the frame and ejector housing mixed with dark brown patina; the action is working, the markings and inscription are clear, the bore is good overall and the grips are very good with beautiful mellow aging and some minor age line cracking at bottom of grips. The gun is accompanied by an old commercial leather tooled flap holster and a thick 3-ring binder of information on Hartz and his military career. There is also a copy of The Gun Report’s February 2004 magazine where this gun is pictured on the cover and contains a related article on the gun. Wilson Tweed Hartz was born on Sept. 9, 1836, in Pottsville, PA. He enlisted in the Union Army on April 22, 1861, in E Co. of the 6th PA Inf., was promoted to 1st Lt., assigned to the 70th N.Y. Inf. and later promoted to Adjutant and assigned to General Sickles’ famous Excelsior Brigade. He was then promoted to Capt. and Assistant Adjutant General of Volunteers on Gen. Nelson Taylor’s staff on Oct. 28, 1862. Hartz was severely wounded in the chest by a Minnie-ball on December 13, 1862 at the battle of Fredericksburg, VA. File letters from Gen. Joe Hooker and Gen. Taylor also cite Hartz’ dedication to duty and his men and his coolness and courage under fire in battles from Williamsburg to Malvern Hill. From Feb. 17, 1863, until the end of the conflict, he served in the Office of Commissary General of Prisoners in Washington, D.C. After the war, Hartz was a 1st Lt. in the 15th U.S. Infantry on May 11, 1866, and during re-construction, was Assistant Adjutant in the District of Alabama. In 1867, he was brevetted to Captain; in 1868 and spent time in Texas, Colorado, New Mexico and was involved in the Ute Indian campaign of the winter of 1879-80. During those times, he served periodically at Fort Wingate, NM Territory. Interestingly enough, also serving at that Fort during the time of shipment of his Colt 1878 revolver, were 6 officers who, according to Parsons’ “The Peacemaker and its Rivals” and Colt factory records, were recipients of the first recorded inscribed Colt Single Action Army revolvers (two of the six guns have so far turned up; “B.N. Waters/U.S.A.” & “P.T. Swaine/U.S.A”). After additional service in the Dakotas and Montana and other assignments, On April 26, 1898, after 36 years of continuous service to his Country, Hartz was promoted to Major of the 15th Infantry and at the end of 1899, requested to accompany his troops to the Philippines but was denied due to his failing health and age. After retirement from the military, Hartz traveled to the Caribbean and Guatemala. Interestingly, in 1907, he received a special passport from the State Dept.; in 1909, the President promoted now Lt. Colonel Hartz (retired) to the grade of Brigadier-General (retired). He died in Guatemala on July 16, 1915. This sidearm was the property of a gallant and meritorious officer of the U.S. Army. Additional research, particularly into the post-military life of W.T. Hartz, could prove very interesting, particularly given the time he spent out-of-Country and what type of “special passport” he was given by the State Dept. in 1907. (Antique). Est.: $7,000-$14,000.

Colt New Service Double Action revolver in .38-40 Winchester caliber with a 7 ½” barrel, fully and finely scroll engraved by William Crawford of San Diego approximately 30 years ago on custom order for prominent Coltcollector. This Colt was originally shipped to Townley Hardware of Kansas City in 2 gun shipment. The subject revolver is scroll engraved with medallion inlaid ivory grips showing 5 inlaid dots as decoration on thebottom of each grip. The hammer and trigger show engine turning. The finish has been restored and almost 100% good re-blue is retained. The bore is near fine and the action is tight and well timed. The frontsight is reduced slightly with brass blade added. Western style engraved Colt SAA revolver, .44-40 cal., 4-3/4” barrel, blue and case hardened finish, etched panel, one-piece ivory grips, #86944 with “S” on frame, triggerguard and backstrap indicating shortening by factory. This revolver has been expertly restored including the etched panel and the grips are finely made replacements which fit impeccably; the markings and edges are sharp and crisp and approx. 99%+ of the re-blue and re-case coloring remains. The action is tight, the bore is excellent. This particular Single Action was previously in the collection of noted Hollywood personality and actor Hunter Von Leer who obtained it during his career from Carl Pitts who performed in shows with Tom Mix in Hollywood’s early days. Pitts got the gun from Walter Cameron who was an Indian agent who travelled to Hollywood in the early 1920’s where he opened the Ben Hur Stables in Culver City and supplied horses to the movie industry for 40 years. Walter Cameron was also a member of the L.A. Mounted Sheriff’s Posse. Several articles on Cameron and a picture of him are included and his name is listed as a performer with the 101 Ranch. He also worked for the early movie production studio World Films and at the Peerless Studios in Ft. Lee, New Jersey; he performed in the early motion picture, “The Great Train Robbery”, was a U.S. Deputy Marshal in the Indian Territory, ran several cattle outfits in the Choctaw nation including the Bar 14 and the W-Bar-C, was a cattleman in Steamboat Springs, CO around 1906 and performed in many Wild West shows. Cameron was also close friends with Tex Cooper who performed with Pawnee Bill’s Wild West. This gun is pictured on page 149 of Cochran’s Peacemaker Encyclopedia Vol. II. Although not currently with this lot, when we first sold this gun at auction in Mr. Von Leer’s collection, a copy of a factory letter indicated it was shipped to Simmons Hardware Co., St. Louis, MO. on Feb. 10, 1883, 5 guns in shipment and under “Remarks”, the factory records indicated the revolver was returned by Simmons on Feb. 2, 1887 to change the 5-1/2” barrel to a 4-3/4” barrel and re-shipped on Feb. 14, 1887. A beautifully restored Single Action with a fascinating history of ownership from lawman/cowboy/early showman, Walter Cameron to latter day Hollywood personality and actor, Hunter Von Leer and to our consignor, a noted local long-time collector in his own right. Received in the warehouse Nov. 14, 1883 and shipped Nov. 15,1883 to order #8953. No British proofs and by tradition ordered for a bear gun Montana rancher. The left wrist shows 4 carved letters approximately ½” in height x 1 ½” which are “EXXX” and are similar to a brand.60%-80% original blue that is thinning and aging naturally with many scratches on the frame. Good crisp edges. 50%-70% case hardening on the hammer and lever. The wood is very good plus with minor aging. Goodsharp markings including “Winchester Express 50 cal 95 grains” on the dust cover. 18th century miquelet flintlock pistol in very good plus condition signed “Torrento” on the lock and “Dommas” on the barrel. Approximately .70 caliber smoothbore with 6 ¼” two stage barrel with cannon muzzle. Fullstock with belt hook retained. Typical engraving with silver plaque inlaid at wrist and silver cap on brass butt cap along with silver inlay on the trigger guard with engraving portrait of helmeted ancientwarrior. The condition is very good plus to almost fine with 20%-30% blue on the barrel, clean bright polished lock with just minor aging. Exceptional stock with sharp raised carving and just minor imperfections andnormal aging. The ramrod tip and end has been broken off and is missing. Presentation Weatherby Mk.V bolt action rifle, .224 Weatherby Magnum caliber, serial #S04166. The rifle is in excellent overall condition with a 24” barrel. The barrel and receiver retain nearly all of their originalhigh polish blued finish with only storage and handling marks observed. The magazine floor plate in lightly engraved and marked Weatherby Custom. The receiver retains nearly all of its blued finish, marked South Gate,Calif. and made in Japan. The flamed Maple stock is in excellent condition, with beautiful grain and exotic wood at the fore end and pistol grip. The stock features magnificent hand carving at the fore end andpistol grip as well as a presentation plaque in the butt from Roy Weatherby himself. Winchester Model 1873 saddle ring carbine, .44-40 WCF caliber, serial #53054. The carbine is good overall condition with a 20” round barrel with a post front and two-leaf folding rear sight. The barrel andfull-length magazine have taken on a grey patina with the barrel address light but readable. There is light surface rust and a hint of pin prick pitting evident. The receiver has taken on a similar patina withno markings on the brass elevator and the dust cover intact. The smooth wood stocks are in fair condition with numerous dents and compressions and some filler has been added around the tang and rear of action. The butt stock ends with a smooth metal crescent butt plate with trap. The bore is good, the action functions and markings are legible. A desirable 73 that would benefit from a little TLC. Post War German SS dagger with scabbard. Assembled from parts, the dagger is in good condition with a 13 ½” in total length with an 8 5/8” blade. The blade shows scabbard wear, staining, scattered pinprick pitting at the handguard and features an inscription. The blade is marked,” RICH. ABR HERDER SOLINGEN” at the handguard. The ebony handle features a German eagle emblem and SS inlays. The metal scabbard shows significant loss of finish and moderate surface rust with silver at the throat and toe and includes the hanger. Beautiful Jeweled Malaysian Kris with carved deity handle. The Kris is in good condition with an overall length of 20”. The wavy, hand forged blade is 14 ½” in length. The blade has great figure in the metal work with a nice grey patina. The gold tone handle depicts a Malaysian deity inlayed with numerous cabochon stones with a wonderful patina. The scabbard is ornately decorated with hammered brass showing a great patinawith wear and damage at the wooden throat. This is a wonderful example of Malaysian craftsmanship and would have been the property of someone significant enough to own such an elaborate piece. Est.:$600-$1,200.

Therevolver is 7.5mm pinfire with a 6 shot cylinder and is double action in typical 1860 style showing 3 ¼” octagon barrel, folding trigger, bag shaped grip and mounted with ejector rod. Original French gray on polished metal finish marked “E.L.” with crown at breach with Belgium proofs, S/N 203938. The original red velvet lined case is in partition style and interior is very good plus with just slight aging and minorimperfections. Excellent 19th century dagger made in arcaic armoural style marked “Fabrica De Toledo”. Fully and finely etched with gold gilt. E. Zulaoga studied arms and the damascening process while working with Le Page and othergreat gun and armouerers of 19th century. He recreated the gold damascening process and won many exhibitions and world acclaim. This dagger in our opinion was made during period that Zulvoaga directed the Toledo Armory. Winchester Model 1886 lever action rifle, 38-56 W.C.F. caliber, serial #41146. The rifle is in good to nearly very good overall condition with a 26” octagon barrel with a ramp front and adjustable rear sights. Thebarrel and full-length magazine have gone almost entirely to a silver/grey patina with small amounts of blue in the protected areas and some light surface rust. The receiver is a grey patina with old, toned case colorsevident in the hammer and lever. The bolt shows some light pin prick pitting at the top. The smooth wood stocks are in good condition with mars and compressions consistent with use. The butt ends with asmooth, steel crescent butt plate. Fully and finely engraved and gold inlaid in presentation quality case by Double Gun Cases, Farmington NH. The information in lid reads 13-5/8” stock, 22” barrel, rampant blade front sight, Ruger folding leaf rear sight, 6lbs 15-1/2” oz, 500grain bullet, 100 grains of blackpowder, muzzle velocity 1400 foot pounds. The rifle shows finely engraved scrolls on left side of receiver with William B. Ruger engraved in gold banner on left center of frame. Ruger name in gold on breech. 50th anniversary on center of right side of frame. The bottom of frame shows date “1949-1999”. The grip cap is engraved and gold inlaid with Ruger trademark. The remainder of the frame is flush gold inlaid borders, the sight rib is engraved in gold inlay, the bands in barrel and muzzle are engraved and the muzzle shows a gold inlaid band. The rifle is stocked in select grain walnut, beautifully engraved and hand checkered with beautifully made recoil pad. The rifle shows no evidence of firing and is virtually new in box. The case is beautifully constructed showing highest quality attention to detail and hardwood exterior, fancy gold plated brass hardware, full accessory package, many of which are engraved and gold inlaid with rods and accessories. The lid of the case shows a gold owners plaque engraved with the letter “R”. By oral tradition, this No. 1 was made for the man, Bill Ruger himself. Mr. Robert Petersen knew Bill Ruger personally and it’s possible that he obtained the rifle from Bill Ruger, although we have no documentation to that effect. Sharps Model 1874 long range rifle No. 1, .45 2-6/10 (45-100), 34” half-round/half-octagon barrel, blue and case hardened finish, checkered wood stocks, milled steel buttplate, S/N 158211, with correct rearsight serial numbered to match. The barrel shows original 90%-95% original blue just toning slightly with minor beginning natural age and slight scratches; frame shows 40%-60% case hardening going to silvery gray withlight areas of case hardening mixed in, also showing strong areas of case hardening beneath the hammer and on sides of the lever; stocks are very good+ with good sharp checkering, great wood to metal fit, and just a light coating of clear varnish or shellac but no sanding and a couple of minor storage marks in the wood; edges are sharp, addresses are good, there is a period non-Sharps buckhorn sight in the rear dovetail, and anadjustable covered front sight in the original front dovetail. Winchester Model 94 lever action rifle, 32 WS caliber, serial #915077. The rifle is in good overall condition with a 26” round barrel with a ramp front and adjustable rear sights. The barrel and full-length magazineretain the majority of the muted blue finish with wear at the muzzle and in front of the action. The receiver has gone primarily to a grey patina with blue in the protected areas around the lever and hammer. Thesmooth wood stocks are in good condition with mars, dents and compressions consistent with use. The butt stock ends with a smooth, steel crescent butt plate. French “Ideal” swivel action SxS 16GA shotgun circa 1880’s to 1890’s. Measures 44 ½” overall with 29 ½” barrels. Unmarked with scroll engraved action. The stocks have been restored and lightly refinished. The metalshows 50%-60% old blue finish and most Damascus pattern on the barrels. A dent is visible on the right barrel about ½ way towards the muzzle. Bores a little rough but almost good. Slightly loose on the centerpin. Rossi Model 90 takedown pump rifle, .22 L.R. caliber, serial #G645836. The rifle is in very good overall condition with a 23” octagon barrel with a blade front and standard rear sights. The barrel, ¾ magazine and receiver retain nearly all of their blued finish with only light handling marks noted. The smooth wood stocks are in very good condition with small mars and some finish loss on the butt stock. The buttstock ends with a plastic, Rossi marked butt plate.
