William Bishop is a wildlife artist who works in the medium of wood. Each sculpture is an original, detailed carving representing various species of wildlife. Using natural wood, William brings out the beauty and grain, creating a unique and stunning piece of art. William was introduced to wildlife carving in 1983 when he attended a fund-raising dinner sponsored by Duck’s Unlimited. He was so impressed with wildlife sculpture and the people involved in this realm he began studying books on the subject acquiring a great admiration for this form of art. The dining room in his Santa Monica, California apartment was transformed into an artist studio. He has always wanted to work with wood and in 1986 he took a leap of faith, quit his job at UCLA, and began carving professionally. Will James, cowboy, cattle rustler, and beloved author and artist of the American West, was born Joseph Ernest Dufault on June 6, 1892, at St. Nazaire de Acton in Quebec, Canada. He came West in 1907 at the age of fifteen, becoming a cowhand and changing his name to William Roderick James. James showed artistic talent from an early age, and gained a reputation for his sketches of life on the range long before publishing his first work. A turning point in James early life came in 1914, when he was accused of rustling cattle in Ely, Nevada and sentenced to the Nevada State Prison at Carson City for a year to fifteen months. During his prison term, he turned to his art for solace, and after his release he became one of the best known Western writers and artists. Features a high polish blued finish, 3.5" octagonal barrel with pointing hand two line address, loading lever, brass cone front sight, 'v' notched rear sight, five-shot roll stamped cylinder with 'Cabin & Indian' scene, smooth spur trigger, case hardened hammer with checkered spur, and one piece figured walnut grips. Revolver appears to be all original with matching serial numbers on butt, cylinder and barrel. Overall approximately 75% of the bright blued finish is retained with scattered losses & wear with the remained turned to a brown patina. Case colors are vivid on the hammer and visible in trace amounts on the loading lever. The brass cone front sight is slightly flattened on it's northeast face. "Men on Horseback", image measures 12 3/4"x 10 3/4". Includes a receipt from Linda Morris Studio showing cleaning and repairs made to paper. Edward Borein, 1872-1945, original watercolor. Scarce and hard to find. Born in San Leandro, California, Edward Borein became one of the most popular artists of western scene painting, equally adept at ink drawing, watercolor, and etching. He was raised in San Leandro, a western cow town, in a family where his father was a county politician. At the age of 17 began working on a ranch near Oakland and then drifted and sketched as a working cowboy throughout the Southwest, Mexico, and Guatemala. At age 19, he enrolled at the San Francisco Art School, his only formal art training, and there he met Jimmy Swinnerton and Maynard Dixon who encouraged him in his art career. The first person to purchase his work was Charles Lummis, editor of The Land and Sunshine magazine in California, and the two became life-long friends..  Borein, a typical westerner in dress and manner, also became close friends with Charles Russell, actor Will Rogers, and President Theodore Roosevelt.  In 1899, Borein visited Arizona while returning from Mexico.  By 1902, he was a successful illustrator in San Francisco for the San Francisco Call, and in 1907 to enhance his illustration skills, went to New York to learn etching techniques.  There he enrolled in the Art Students League and was a student of Child Hassam.  In the theatre district, he opened a studio that became a gathering place for 'lonesome' westerners such as Charles Russell, Will Rogers, Olaf Seltzer and Oscar Borg.  But Borein did not feel at home in New York, so he moved to Santa Barbara, California in 1921. This was a final move.  He and his wife built a Hopi-style home, and he taught at the Santa Barbara School of the Arts until his death,

Ewing a mining engineer who worked for Cody and (3) typed copies of 1965 college paper Cody/Dyer Mining & Milling Co. 1912-1916 envelopes. (1) envelope which has Buffalo Bills Wild West combined with Pawnee Bill Far East return address from his New York Office 1261 Broadway, and the other is from Colonel W.F. Cody historical pictures Denver, CO and stamped from the post office in Chicago, Il. dated Jan. 24, 1914. Also a letter from Marvin Johnson to Mrs. Baker who was a field historian for U of Arizona, Tucson who was talking about the wife of Ewing.

Very lifelike with great attention to detail. Measures 17 1/2"x16"x17 1/2". William Bishop is a wildlife artist who works in the medium of wood. Each sculpture is an original, detailed carving representing various species of waterfowl. Using natural wood, William brings out the beauty and grain, creating a unique and stunning piece of art. William was introduced to wildlife carving in 1983 when he attended a fund-raising dinner sponsored by Duck’s Unlimited. Features a 5 1/2" barrel with single line address & Colt Frontier Six Shooter marking, ejector rod, no front sight, v-notch rear sight, smooth trigger, checkered hammer spur, fluted cylinder, swing-out loading gate, lanyard loop and checkered two-piece Colt hard rubber bird's head grips. Revolver exhibits very little remaining finish with only light traces present around the cylinder pin release and on the inside of the trigger guard. Markings are all present and legible. Blue Duck famous Indian outlaw's personal bowie knife and letter from Fort Smith Historical Society. Letter dated April 14,1938 " Dear Mr McKorkly It was very good to hear from you again. We here all miss you and hope the very best for you. In response to your inquiry Feb 22, this is what we were able to discern about your purchase. According to the surviving witness locals and law officers, "Blue Duck" was an erstwhile outlaw of N. Texas and Indian Terr. and romantically linked to Belle Starr. It is believed by some of our elder members that the knife you have was his personal fighting knife and could well be the one once held as evidence in his stabbing investigation. That particular knife surreptiosally vanished about the time of Belle Starrs death in 1889. I hope this short history is what you needed for your records and research. If you are coming to this area please come by and renew old friendships signed Always your friend, Mr. B. Johnson" Stamped F.S.H.S. The knife it self has a bone handle inlaid with a silver diamond and serrated edge 15" overall with a 10" blade, the sheath is leather and reads BLUE DUCK with a pale gray paint, all show age and use. Blue Duck, sometimes referred to as Bluford Duck, (1858? – 1895) was an outlaw of the Old West, probably best known for a photograph taken of him around the mid-1880s, in which he posed with Belle Starr, a famous Old West female outlaw. Biography- Duck was born in the Cherokee Nation, with the name of Sha-con-gah. By the early 1870s he was riding with gangs across the Oklahoma Territory committing armed robberies and acts of cattle rustling. Blue Duck became involved romantically with Belle Starr along that time. When she married outlaw Sam Starr, she and her husband formed their own gang, which Blue Duck joined. He is believed to have ridden with that gang through most of the latter part of the 1870s, although his involvement with them was off and on.On June 23, 1884, while riding drunk in the Flint District of the Cherokee Nation, and in the company of outlaw William Christie, the two men came upon a farmer named Samuel Wyrick. For no apparent reason, the two outlaws opened fire on the farmer, emptying their revolvers into him, killing him. They then reloaded and fired on a young Cherokee boy who'd witnessed the murder, missing him but shooting his horse from beneath him. Both Blue Duck and Christie were captured by Deputy US Marshal Frank Cochran, and taken before Judge Isaac Parker, known as the "Hanging Judge", in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Both were convicted, although Christie was later cleared of the charge and released. Blue Duck was sentenced to hang, but later his sentence was reduced to life in prison. He was sent to Menard Penitentiary in Chester, Illinois as Inmate # 2486. Blue Duck was assisted in an unsuccessful appeal by Belle Starr. In 1895, when he was diagnosed with tuberculosis and given only a short time to live, he was granted a pardon and released. He died shortly thereafter in Catoosa, Oklahoma, where he is buried. This a rare chance to own a piece of American history.

Edward Two Bulls is a self-taught artist who has been painting since the late 1950's. He once stated, he had painted 15,000 paintings in his career. His works capture the native American life, past and present and it's rich heritage. He received the Honor of a Special Exhibition organized by the Indian Arts and Crafts Board's Sioux Indian Museum in December 1978 through January 1979. The exhibit was the first comprehensive showing of paintings and sculpture by Edward Two Bulls and his sons. The brochures cover painting was titled Plains Warrior, 1977 Acrylic on canvas panel, 32" x 48" and was marked as one of the great Native American paintings of this century by the museum and its curator. The detail of the warrior, his costume and feathers was life-like. In 1967 Two Bulls exhibited his works at the Smithsonian Institution, Washington D.C.; in 1968 at the Sears Vincent Price Gallery, Chicago IL. In his career Two Bulls has exhibited his works throughout the country and painted at shows and fairs. He received a commission from the Santee Sioux Tribe to paint murals depicting important historical tribal events.

'Frontier' Double action six-shot revolver chambered in 44-40 Winchester, circa 1889. Features a blued finish, 5 1/2" barrel with single line address, ejector rod, blade front sight, v-notch rear sight, smooth trigger, checkered hammer spur, fluted cylinder, swing-out loading gate, no lanyard loop and checkered two-piece Colt hard rubber bird's head grips. Revolver exhibits little remaining finish with the majority of the metal surfaces bearing a grey patina with scattered dark oxidation. The caliber stamp on the trigger guard is sharp, serial number is soft, and barrel address is faint/incomplete. The cylinder pin release button has partially been replaced by a flat head screw. From San Ildefonso Pueblo, Alfonso Roybal (Awa Tsireh) was many things to his pueblo; he was a farmer, pottery painter, museum employee, painter and silversmith. He was born in 1898 and died in 1955. Awa Tsireh was painting before 1917. He was the oldest of the early group of pueblo painters. His formal education had not extended beyond primary grades. He was versatile in his styles of painting. He was equally comfortable with representational or semi-realistic, representational plus conventional, and abstract. Awa Tsireh was early recognized beyond his native world as an outstanding Indian artist. His watercolors were sent by Alice Corbin Henderson to the Arts Club of Chicago for a special exhibit in 1920. His paintings appeared in early exhibits in Santa Fe, and he was among the several artists to receive prizes at the first Santa Fe Indian Market. In 1925, the Chicago papers were generous in their acclaim for his exhibit in the Newberry Library. The Exposition of Indian Tribal Arts in New York in 1931 included Awa Tsireh paintings.

'Frontier' Finely refinished & interesting double action six-shot revolver chambered in 41 Colt, circa 1898. Features a blued finish, 5 1/2" barrel with single line address, ejector rod, blade front sight, v-notch rear sight, smooth trigger, checkered hammer spur, fluted cylinder, swing-out loading gate, lanyard loop and checkered two-piece Colt hard rubber bird's head grips. Includes a colt factory letter confirming it's configuration and stating that it was shipped to Colt's Patent Fire-Arms Mfg. Co. San Francisco Agency on January 26, 1898 in a two gun shipment and shipped one more to The George Tritch Hardware Company in Denver, Colorado on January 25, 1901 in a two gun shipment. Revolver exhibits approximately 99% of it's fine refinish showing two small freckles of surface rust on the trigger guard. The barrel markings are very good, no visible marking on the frame and the serial number marking is very good. Julián Martinez Pocano (Coming of the Spirits) was born in San Ildefonso Pueblo in New Mexico, and died in San Ildefonso Pueblo. He is perhaps best known for the designs he painted on his wife Maria's famous pottery. Martinez had no formal art training. He was the father of Tony Martinez (Popovi Da), also a well known Pueblo artist. In addition to artist, Martinez listed his occupation as "farmer, laborer, janitor, and pottery designer," (Lester, p. 343). He also served as Governor of San Ildefonso Pueblo. According to Snodgrass, Martinez had been painting since 1920 and had gone through several periods of 'realistic' paintings, but some of his more outstanding works were his abstract symbolic and geometric designs found on Maria's pottery. Martinez' paintings were among those selected by Mary Jane Colter to decorate the La Fonda Hotel in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He received several commissions for murals, which can be seen at the Santa Fe Indian School; Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado (1935); and at the School of American Research in Santa Fe. Features a blued 25" No. 1 weight half octagonal barrel, folding ring front sight, blank inserted in the rear sight dovetail, Lyman adjustable tang sight, double set triggers, curved lever, checkered hammer spur, smooth walnut forend with metal tip and straight grip shoulder stock with swiss style buttplate. The barrel retains approximately 50% of it's blued finish with rust under the forearm and some light scattered dark rust on the exposed surfaces. The receiver has turned to a brown patina with trace amounts of case coloring in the protected areas. Action is crisp, bore is very good+ and wood stocks are very good as the forend is slightly off center & the shoulder stock bares an old crack/repair at the wrist. The damascus pattern on the barrels is mostly intact with some lost visibility due to a browning patina. The receiver is primarily in-the-white showing some examples of case hardening in protected areas. The forend iron shows a loss on the top of the right side and the left ejector rod is broken under the forend. Action performs well, bores are very good and wood stocks show small cracks extending from the upper tang, bolt through the wrist & average dings. This is one of the reasons most people working from photographs make the reproductions much too big. Having said that, some of the original saddles were for some very narrow (and/or small) horses. For instance, I myself am 193cm(apx 6' 4") tall, yet my saddle has a seat length of about 34 cm, (just over 13”), and when measured in the same way as a modern saddle, potentially less, yet it works fine, even with armor. When riding in these war saddles, the leg is really close to the horse, as the upper leg is not impeded by a broad tree or lots of padding and yet the surface area in contact with the horse is large.

Features floral scroll engraving, 5 3/4" barrel, triangular front sight, ejector rod, non-fluted six-shot cylinder, rounded trigger, checkered hammer spur, lanyard ring and two piece checkered wood grips. Revolver is primarily in-the-white with some areas of brown and dark grey patina. The finish has moved to an even dark grey patina other than over the markings where it appears to have been cleaned. Lesser Scaup carved in wood and hand painted. Measures 10 1/2"x6 1/25"x5". William Bishop is a wildlife artist who works in the medium of wood. Each sculpture is an original, detailed carving representing various species of waterfowl. Using natural wood, William brings out the beauty and grain, creating a unique and stunning piece of art. William was introduced to wildlife carving in 1983 when he attended a fund-raising dinner sponsored by Duck’s Unlimited. He was so impressed with wildlife sculpture and the people involved in this realm he began studying books on the subject acquiring a great admiration for this form of art. The dining room in his Santa Monica, California apartment was transformed into an artist studio. He has always wanted to work with wood and in 1986 he took a leap of faith, quit his job at UCLA, and began carving professionally. He did well in competitions, winning many blue ribbon and best of show awards in carving exhibitions throughout the United States. That very next year he was honored with the first place award in Life-Size Decorative Waterfowl category at the Ward Brothers World Championship held in Ocean City, Maryland.
