A Dumbo the Flying Elephant Ride Vehicle.
(Disneyland, 1960s) A rare original Dumbo the Flying Elephant ride vehicle. Few attractions embody the whimsy and magic of Disneyland quite like this beloved Fantasyland favorite. As one of the few remaining attractions from the Park's opening year, these large ride vehicles have been an unforgettable part of the Disneyland experience for 70 years. In the Park's early years, the Dumbo vehicles featured hinged ears that moved up and down. However, mechanical issues often caused the ears to become immobile, leading to a redesign that replaced them with stationary ears. This Dumbo has one toenail per foot, a trait of the Disneyland attraction's earliest vehicles, likely painted pink during a refurbishment. A similar one-toenailed Dumbo was donated by Disney to the Smithsonian on the Park’s 50th anniversary. Disney chose this Dumbo vehicle to repurpose into a photo op for Park Guests. At that time, Disney lovingly restored the paint and refurbished the fiberglass on the left flank of the vehicle, filling the area where the large armature had been attached. The ride vehicle was paired with a hand-painted red and yellow base with a circus aesthetic. Park Guests and powerful dignitaries alike have sat in this ride vehicle, both when it was flying through the air in Fantasyland and when it was the star of memorable family photos. This vehicle was also the first Dumbo ride vehicle ever publicly sold by Disney, won at auction on September 25, 1992 during the first Disneyana Convention. The certificate of authenticity from Disney states that this Dumbo vehicle is from 1955, although we believe it originates from the first redesign, as it features stationary ears. This is a rare opportunity to own an essential and iconic piece of Disneyland history. Dumbo measures 9.5 feet long, 7.25 feet wide ear-to-ear, and over 4.25 feet tall, with a total height of 6.5 feet tall including its 8 feet in diameter wooden base. The ride vehicle is in very good condition with large cracks under the knee and torso that do not affect display or structure, and expected wear, including cracks and paint chipping, from its decades upon decades of Park use. Due to size and weight, special shipping arrangements are required. Please inquire before bidding.

pat
(Euro Disneyland, 1992-93) The original line drawing for the "Discovery Mountain" attraction poster. As first conceived, Discovery Mountain was intended to be a massive addition to Disneyland Paris after opening - a huge structure in Discoveryland containing a roller coaster, railroad station, Nautlius submarine restaurant, and more. After the Park’s softer-than-expected opening, it was greatly scaled down, becoming essentially just a Jules Verne-themed Space Mountain roller coaster. Imagineer Tim Delaney designed this poster for the Discovery Mountain attraction, which stayed nearly identical for the final poster realized as, once again, Space Mountain. Included here are Delaney’s original line drawing of the poster in felt tip on vellum paper, and a copy made with notations on the poster’s text in red. The drawing includes a 10.5" x 5" photocopy of the mechanically drawn logo for the attraction taped in the middle. Each measuring 14.5" x 20", the drawing and copy are in good condition, with typical wear from production use, including folds and creases. A Never Released Discovery Mountain Poster.
(Euro Disneyland, 1992-93) An untrimmed original attraction poster for Discovery Mountain, an attraction that never came to be. The decision to rename the scaled-down Discovery Mountain as Space Mountain was finalized on August 3, 1994 - less than a year before the attraction’s June 1, 1995, opening. By that time, Imagineer Tim Delaney had already designed a full attraction poster for Discovery Mountain, illustrating the roller coaster trip from the Earth to the Moon in turn-of-the-19th-century poster style, utilizing 30 different colors, including gold and copper metallic tones. The poster was updated with the Space Mountain name for use in the Park, but we can think of no other example of a finished poster with an attraction name that wasn’t used. Measuring 33" x 47", the poster is in good condition with creases throughout, and edge wear that does not affect the image.

Imagineer Tim Delaney painted this logo which was used for the attraction until it closed in 2005, reopening as Space Mountain Mission 2 with the Jules Verne theming removed. With an image size of 8.5" x 7.75" on 10.75" x 16" art board, the gouache painting is in very good condition with wear to the board typical of production use, and a faint smudge in the "S" and "O" of the title.
